Continental Electric CP43001 Classic Dry Iron Reviews
8 of 8 people found the following review helpful No Holes!, January 4, 2012 By Bessesdotter "threadability" (Phila, PA USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Continental Electric CP43001 Classic Dry Iron (Misc.) I added this iron to my collection of irons (I am a fiber artist and need lots of irons) for one reason--the sole plate has no holes. Which is wonderful when working with fusible web on fabric. With holes in the plate you have to move the iron more to make sure you cover the spots where the holes are to make the web adhere better. But with this iron that is never and issue--the web bonds securely the first time and every time.
One added bonus to this iron that I was not aware until it arrived is that it has no safety shut-off. So it stays on--well that is good or bad depending on if you remember to turn off manually. But in my work I like it on and have everything on a switch and shut down when I leave the studio area.
Another bonus I did not realize right away is that the iron is the hottest iron I have ever had short of the ones my mom had in the 1950's and 1960's era when electrics were really basic but worked well. Many of the other irons in my collection while decent,... Read more
7 of 8 people found the following review helpful Same model # but very different, May 18, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Continental Electric CP43001 Classic Dry Iron (Misc.) I was looking for a good dry iron and learned about the Continental CP43001. This was the best price I found for that model, so I ordered it. When it arrived it was quite different from the one I had seen, tho' it has the very same model # stamped on it. This one is very lightweight and has a smaller soleplate, neither of which is an attractive feature to me. I can only assume that Continental changed the iron, and I don't know whether the one I prefer is an earlier or a later model, nor can I imagine why they'd preserve the model # with such significant changes to the iron itself. I haven't been able to discover any other manufacturer of a dry iron, but I did find another supplier with the model I want. It's not worth it to me to return this iron & pay return postage (I'll probably give it away to a crafter or quilter who will appreciate any dry iron). I have no complaints with the supplier.
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful wonderfully simple, January 1, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Continental Electric CP43001 Classic Dry Iron (Misc.) No drips, leaks, seeps, mineral crusts or errant puffs of steam. Heats up properly and maintains temperature. Nice heft for a good press without need to exert too much tiring downward force. Perfect.
