CAUGHT on FIRE on FIRST USE!!!, March 30, 2011 By This review is from: Sunbeam 3057-022 Simple Press Iron (Kitchen) Just bought this iron at Target. The first time I used it I added water to the reservoir (less than the max fill line) plugged in the iron to warm up, left the room for a moment, and returned to find the iron shooting out a lot of steam and smelled an unusual odor. For a second I thought that the odor was just due to it being a brand new iron, then I saw smoke coming from the iron. Quickly, I unplugged the iron. I yelled for hubby to come check it and in the moment it took him to come to the room the iron began smoking profusely with a terrible odor. Hubby picked up the iron and it burst into flames while still unplugged! Thank God he was able to get the iron out of the house and douse the fire before a disaster occurred. The iron is a burnt up mess outside. I plan to bring it to the fire dept tomorrow to see if they can determine what went wrong. Very scary situation - could have lost everything in a moments time.

Pros Simple to use and nice features
Cons Leaks like crazy after only two months use.

It leaked right away, so I stopped using the steam function and after only 2 uses, the cord retraction gizmo broke and now i have to clip the cord with a clothespin to keep it from fully retracting while I iron. On the plus-side, Sunbeam did offer to replace it (with another model, saying this one is unavailable) when I contacted them.
Pros: Really pretty, easy to use.
Cons: Broke quickly, leaks water.
