12 of 13 people found the following review helpful I love my reliable steam press, June 26, 2008 By 209cookiemomster "Pegi" (California) - See all my reviews This review is from: Reliable Empressa Digital Steam Presses (Kitchen) I have always been lousy at ironing.
This steam press makes my life a lot easier. I can press both sides of an item at one time. I can put a crease in that lasts all day.
It takes some time to get used to putting items on the press. I don't really use the steam much, but I use the squirt bottle all the time. Sometimes I placed an item so it developed a crease somewhere I didn't want it. Just squirt and repress.
Unlike regular ironing where you work on a small portion at a time, this does half a shirt or a whole pants leg at a time. Proper placement and smoothing it out before pressing is VERY important or else you repeat.
I usually count to about 8 and it is done.
Most shirts take four presses of 8 seconds each. Half the shirt twice and the sleeves. Pants, hmm, I am still working on the alignment thing. Usually I am pressing the pants flat, meaning seam to seam, then folding to put the crease down the leg.
You will burn... Read more
11 of 12 people found the following review helpful waste of money, September 2, 2008 By This review is from: Reliable Empressa Digital Steam Presses (Kitchen) This press has a huge pressing area unfortunately it doesn't "press" the whole area. Mine has no pressing action on the last 4 inches or so of each end. I called the manufacturer and was told this is normal. It wasn't designed to press the whole length of the ironing surface. So why did I pay more money for the extra board?? The bottom board is WOOD. Why would you make something that will be steamed out of WOOD? That wasn't the problem unless the wood means some will be shapped better than others but I thought it worth mentioning. Also the steam button is located where you can easily accidently press it while you are closing the top. The whole thing has a terrible design. I would NOT have bought it if I had known these things especially via the net where I have to SHIP it back rather than a store return.
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful Reliable? NO!, February 20, 2010 This review is from: Reliable Empressa Digital Steam Presses (Kitchen) This quit working after about 8 uses in 4 months. I think the electronic control board went out.
Reliable agreed to fix it for me and send it back free of charge, but it cost me $144 to ship it from Washington state to Toronto. (This included $32 to have UPS pack it for me as I had thrown out the original boxes).
It presses OK. THey have changed the press boards to metal (from wood as one reviewer mentioned), and it does press all of the way to the edges. It has great steam when it works. It is really easy to burn your wrist when you are smoothing the fabric out especially if you are pushing things out of the back side.
One thing I didn't realize, is part of what removes wrinkles is the pushing action of the iron. The steam press doesn't do this, you have to steam and press, smooth it with your hands again, and press. So it isn't all that quick. I would get a steam generator type iron next time.
And I will make sure it won't cost a small... Read more
